ARTICLE: 3D Printing in Education

Popular trends are very commonly integrated into school curriculum, from the option of pop culture classes at the collegiate level to current news in high school classes. One of the most recent innovations that have been implemented in some classrooms is 3D Printing. Not only are these classes offered at the collegiate level, but there are also educational classes offered for children and grown adults. This exposure to a new technology is great, but what will it mean for the future of 3D Printing?

3D Printing in education can help students by offering a variety of solutions to their problems. Not only are these students learning more about machines and new technology, they are learning more about problem-solving skills. Instead of building a makeshift science project, why not spend more time on the design and take advantage of the ability to 3D print it? College architecture students can 3D print their designs instead of meticulously building a mock. 3D printed areas representing population or topography can help in Geography lessons.

This new way of thinking and learning can really impact the student as a person instead of just in the classroom. Independent thinking, organization, and problem-solving skills are all important advantages of this new curriculum. This could possibly encourage more students to take initiative in the classroom and in the future, in the workplace. Visualizing their ideas and scanning existing parts to make their own creations is a whole new opportunity for freedom for these students.

Encouraging new types of learning and innovation is a very inspiring way to teach people of all ages. With Keene Village Plastic’s 3D Printing filaments, it has never been easier to teach all of the various forms of 3D printing. Check out our various types of filaments here and all of the waves we are making in the 3D printing world here.
